Final Greetings and Remarks (1Peter 5:12-14)

FINAL GREETINGS AND REMARKS (1Peter 5:12-14): Peter writes the letter of 1Peter to the dispersed believers throughout Asia Minor. Though it is much evident from the first verse of the epistle that Peter is the author, there is a thought that Silvanus may have written as Peter dictates his thoughts to him as the book is a good literary work in the Greek. Silas is the one who would be most probably mentioned as Silvanus in 1 Peter and three other epistles. Silvanus is a literate and Peter could have sought his help as he doesn’t have a very good educational background. There is also another thought that Peter could have learned Greek during the time of his ministry, written the letter, and passed the letter through Silvanus. This could be a more reasonable thought due to some instances we could observe that Peter preaches with many pieces of evidence of the Old Testament scripture in Acts 2Ch. Peter along with other elders writes the letter to the Gentiles in Acts 15Ch to instruct ...

Young Believers Learn from Mistakes (1Peter 5:5-11)

YOUNG BELIEVERS LEARN FROM EXAMPLES (1Peter 5:5-11): After instructing the elder believers who are dispersed, Peter instructs the younger believers who need the guidance of shepherding care from the elders. Peter doesn’t recommend the elders to be domineering but be an example as that of Jesus Christ and he starts to instruct the younger believers with the example of Christ itself using a linking word. He instructs the younger believers to be subject to the elders for learning from their knowledge, expertise, and experience. He continues to instruct them to Clothe themselves with all humility toward their fellow believers, which is the most essential attribute for the followers of Christ as Christ Himself humbled Himself to the point of death at the cross, leaving all the divinity, dominion, and power. Throughout the Bible we could see many negative examples who had fallen in their Godly lives due to the proudness of their possession, prosperity, or power, So God opposes the prid...

Privileged Elders to Feed the Lamp (1Peter 5:1-4)

PRIVILEGED ELDERS TO FEED THE LAMB (1Peter 5:1-4): Peter commends the believers with many valuable teachings and reminds them about the hope and future glory that believers have. He says the believers to entrust their souls to the faithful creator who is always righteous and loving. Then Peter encourages the believers further through the exhortation to the elders, who are among the believers. Peter says the fellow elders as the witness of the sufferings of Christ. The elders will be certainly of matured age as that of Peter and they would have been mostly existed during the time of the suffering and crucifixion of Christ either directly by being in Jerusalem or somewhere near, but being heard about it, so he mentions them as fellow elders. Also, the Elders may have some association with Jesus though it may not be as close as that of Peter. At the time when Peter writes the letter, believers would be undergoing the tribulations and trials. So, Peter affirms again that the elders ...

Creator's Protection Guaranteed Amidst Suffering (1Peter 4:17-19)

CREATOR’S PROTECTION GUARANTEED AMIDST SUFFERING (1Peter 4:17-19): After reminding the elect about sufferings as Christians and encouraging them not to be devastated because of sufferings, Peter affirms the difficulty of living a Christian life though it is worthier, peaceful, and joyful. God is always righteous and there is no partiality amongst His creations, Peter writes that the time of Judgment is ready to begin at the household of God. Peter writes the letter during A.D. 60’s when there were a lot of tribulations and Jerusalem was about to be destroyed. Jerusalem was considered to be the most honorable place for Jewish believers and Peter would have probably written that the Judgment will begin at the household of God. Another reason could be God’s grace was tasted by the believers first and they are supposed to be salt and light wherever they are, especially among those who hadn’t known God, So Peter would have mentioned it. There is Judgment both for the believers and un...

Spirit Empowered to Rejoice in Suffering (1Peter 4:12-16)

SPIRIT EMPOWERED TO REJOICE IN SUFFERING (1Peter 4:12-16):  Peter addresses the elect as beloved as he affirms their bondage in God as stewards and partakers of God’s grace. He writes them not to be surprised at the different trials that come upon them to test them. Peter already introduces the believers about the need for the trials and the sufferings as God’s people. The testing of faith will help believers to become purer and grow in spiritual status. The trials may not be very simple and it could be much complicated and sometimes weird, so Peter says the elect not to be shocked as though the strange things were happening to them suddenly. Peter writes the elect instead to rejoice in whatever they have to share in Christ’s sufferings. Though it is difficult to digest the sufferings because of the trials and for the sake of doing good, if we look at the suffering that the Lord Jesus Christ endured as a perfect example, the sufferings will be comparatively very less and tol...

Empowered to Be Stewards (1Peter 4:7-11)

EMPOWERED TO BE STEWARDS (1Peter 4:7-11): As many other apostles and some Jewish people, Peter also expected the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the judgment of all the people. Before the second coming of Jesus, there were certain things that were foretold to happen in the last days. Peter writes the letter during 60 A.D. and during that period there were a lot of tribulations and destruction of the church was initiated. So, Peter cautions the believers that the end of all things is at hand. Because Peter believed that the days of his age are last days, and he insisted the believers control themselves and be sober-minded by considering everything they are in and been entrusted. Believers have a relationship with God by means of their prayers and they ought to live a life that is pleasing to God. Therefore Peter says them to be patient, tolerant, and cautious in everything to shine as witnesses wherever they are. Every commandment given by God lies in the word ‘Love’...

Be Prepared to Follow Christ's Example (1Peter 4:1-6)

BE PREPARED TO FOLLOW CHRIST ‘S EXAMPLE (1Peter 4:1-6): Peter, being one of the closest disciples of Jesus Christ, knew more about Him. Peter encourages the elect by writing them about the perfect example that is Jesus Christ. He continues to write to the elect to have the same way of thinking as Jesus Christ. Christ had suffered in the flesh without any sins, becoming a ransom for the sins and trespasses of mankind. If the elect arm themselves with thought as same as that of Christ, they will best lead their life in a Godly manner. They will be ceased from sins as whoever suffers in the flesh for God’s sake and rig\hteousness sake will Love God with all their heart, mind, and soul as well as Love others as the self. The believer who suffers in his flesh will avoid sin though tempted or fallen at times. Because the believer in Christ desires to live for the will of God, by knowing and following the commandments of God. Though a person tries to gratify the self and the human pass...
